A bit too timely given the current moment, but I'm excited to have my chapter with Bryn Rosenfeld "Democratic Backsliding and the Politicization of Public Employment" as a part of this volume.
The first comprehensive, cross-regional comparative study of democratic backsliding and resiliency around the world.

Gutted by a lot, but this one hurts.

I have a long-running project on @rferl.org.web.brid.gy. Spoiler: it works. To this day, RFE provides high-quality journalism in (semi-)closed media environments.

But don't take my word for it. Here are some snippets from listener letters sent in the 1960s:

Now watching Trump yell at Zelensky. And Vance talk to him like he's a toddler. This is a shameful moment for United States diplomacy. It will be hard to recover from this.
Occam's Razor: always go back to Trump's 3 core beliefs, as spelled out by Tom Wright in 2016: Trump is anti-trade, anti-alliances, and pro-authoritarianism. All the theater with Macron and Starmer, all the talk of deals--he is not going to give Ukraine security anything.
‘Vance accuses Zelensky of being "disrespectful".
Trump then says the Ukrainian leader is "gambling with World War Three".
The meeting ends with Trump telling Zelensky that he is not being "very thankful" and that "this is going to make great television".’ www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c6...
