My favorite email for Black Friday is once again Tsuchiya Kaban's email explaining why they DON'T do holiday sales.

It is the ONE email I receive a year from a retailer that shows actual care.

Pretty bruised and scraped up, but I am OK. Phone case has a nice scratch in it. Sunglasses have some scrapes.
Apple Watch immediately offered to call 911, which thankfully I could dismiss.
You can definitely see the wipeout on the workout map.

Last month, Portland Streetcar had its highest ridership since May of 2024 - and its highest so far this year. Having the Broadway Bridge close for six months next month is really going to hurt now.

Well I guess I made the news tonight.

I have done a very Portland thing…

So here's an interesting gotcha with Clipboard History in macOS Tahoe. History is now only kept for eight hours. I don't recall that being noted before.

I do think it's worth noting though that May had a two-week disruption of service, which I think greatly contributed to the NS dropping significantly. Without the disruption in May, this year so far would be trending upwards very slightly. Year to year, the NS is down though.

Total monthly ridership also sees the NS trending downward, the B-Loop slightly downward, and the A-Loop mostly flat. Same month ridership is also generally down.
August 13, 2025 at 3:01 AM
Meanwhile average weekend ridership is a bit all over the place while generally higher than weekday ridership. This is especially interesting when you factor in less frequent trains and shorter service hours on the weekends.

I hate to say it, but I'm a little worried by trending data for Portland Streetcar.

Average weekday ridership is trending mostly flat for the A/B-Loops (Downtown to Eastside), while the NS is all over the place, trending down year over year (Nob Hill - Downtown - S Waterfront).

Very nice updates to the Home app in beta three of iOS 26: it will now tell you the last time an accessory checked in if it’s no longer responding.

Portland Streetcar is now permanently stopping all stations. You no longer need to request a stop. portlandstreetcar.org/ride-guide/r...

The current to previous year comparison especially hurts to see.
June 21, 2025 at 7:49 PM
Wow. Portland Streetcar had an abysmal May. I do hope this drop is because of the two-week disruption to rebuild PSU Urban Center.

You might want to actually look at the weather report, Lyft, before you do a marketing campaign for BIKETOWN.

If for some dumb reason your iPad app STILL does not have a native landscape display in 2025, iPadOS 26 will force it in to a window.

Days like today are why AC is a requirement on my apartment list.

I said I'd give the Brookville fleet 90 days before sharing some more detailed thoughts on it…
Close enough.

That’s some oddly consistent looking weather starting on Friday.

Another bit of transit design I miss from Melbourne: the fare evasion signs. I still wish TriMet had ones as snarky as these.

One thing I really liked from Australia: service alerts would be hung from the stanchions on trams on cards like these. Not the most eco-friendly way to do things these days, but for 2013 I thought it was a brilliant idea that I would've loved to see copied back home in the US.
