I’m 53,000 words into my new novel. I’ve had a wobble with it, but then waded in and fixed some characterisations (with a horribly dark scene I’m somehow in love with). I have one more story strand to kick off and then we’ll have a book shaping up 😃

Went to a Sleeper gig on Saturday and bumped into two sets of beloved friends from 30 years ago who (WTAF) not just remembered me but still adored me three decades on. In a life that’s all too eager to show you how inconsequential you are, I was not prepared for it in the slightest *beachballs*

@theguyliner.bsky.social I finished Leading Man this morning; I loved it, I think it’s your finest novel yet. Quite a painful read for me in places; I recognised a bit too much of what Leo’s gone through in my own past. Really beautifully explored though and I doubt that’s an easy thing to do 😊

What it feels like for a girl on BBC. One episode in and I’m fuming. ‘Based on a true story’ is the new careless justification - just like with Baby Reindeer - to put one person’s experience onscreen and claim it’s some kind of queer norm. Fuck off. This is a queer show made by straight people.

Meanwhile, I’ve posted before about planning vs pantsing in #writing. I wrote something that seemed weak and wasn’t what I intended… until I realised the mutated plot was better. Lesson? Trust your instincts, even when they seem misplaced. Your characters will tell the story if you let them

I haven’t updated but I’ve done #writing. The premise of my series is that mythical creatures keep inexplicably showing up; so I’ve written about a small boy whose bullies are ripped apart by a swamp demon; an aristocrat who takes a Minotaur as a concubine; and an army of fix-it sprites who sing.” 😃

I did my fave 20 books that have influenced me. And it never occurred to me to look at who wrote them. Only six of 20 were written by women (and one of them was co-written by a man). Only two were by queer authors (that I know of) and both were men. Not sure how I feel about that ratio 🤔

After writing my first book, I read On Writing by @stephenking.bsky.social I loved the chapter that confirmed something I already knew: “All of your characters - to some extent - are you.” Just taken that to its nth degree in book two: enter a handsome, haughty gay who can’t take anything seriously.

My boyfriend loves Harry Potter. Or loved HP, more accurate. Nick Frost is in the new show, along with a string of amazing names, all of whom we’ve loved in other things. But JK Rowling is officially involved. That’s why me and my HP super-fan BF will be asking that show to lick our Pride flags.
