They even disregarded their own laws regarding slavery. Estimates even say the circissian slaves trade was around half a million even around 1900's.

Circassian post-Russian conquest of Crimea filled the niche of white slave, and because of the Russian conquest of the area, their number increased manifold to even industrial scale. This was despite them being Moslems and despite several measures forced upon them by Brits, French and Russians.

I think my point is getting lost in translation; the Ottoman Empire did have a large slave mass, even up to WW-1. Despite the decline in their slave holdings.By the way, Circassian slaves were very popular throughout the Ottoman and Arab world by the late 19th century.

I am specifically talking about the Black Sea Slavic slave trade and the Crimean slave trade in the context of the Russian role in stopping it. The last major slave raid conducted by Tatars was in 1769, and Russia annexed Crimea in 1783. Rhymes perfectly with my POV.

The decline and the end of the Black Sea Slavic slave trade absolutely match Russian domination of the Baltic Sea coast. Also, slavery persisted in the Ottoman Empire till WW-1, at a scale that would put the American South to shame.

They didn't particularly love Russia; it's just that it's a very difficult balancing act, which they sometimes fail and sometimes succeed at.

Greeks also have it rough; they also square up against the Turks, with whom Europe is still in love, unlike Russia. So, they are virtually alone.
