For me, the crying laughing is just easy to see.
A lot of the smiling and the actual laughing emojis look very similar at a glance, especially on a small mobile handset.
Just think it avoids any confusion on your intended mood to convey

Sorry mate. I lost my cat suddenly about 20 years ago... have never got over it enough to get another. It's like losing a family member.
