PoE2's tooltips are absolutely insane monsters and may give you some thoughts on how to progressively disclose massive systems.

In the past, I've allowed flexibility to trump self-awareness. Rather than say I'm fine, I'm trying to fight more heavily for what works for me.

Now house your fancy shmancy icon inside of a fancy shmancy container of any type. Simple geometric shapes can make a big world of difference. Done! You've completely transformed what you started with into something bespoke and slick! Congratulations! 4/

You can set the icon's color directly in the tool by placing it in Foreground mode, but I like to download it directly as an SVG and take it into Figma or any editing software. Set it to your color and add a shadow similar to these settings. I've included a screenshot from both the web and Figma. 3/

First, get used to these buttons on the left. It's a bit intimidating, I know, but these are how you tailor your icon to what you want to use in your game. Use the Studio dropdown to change to background and set it to "none." 2/

Your icons from game-icons.net don't have to suck! Too many indies are just grabbing these directly from the page and slopping it into a UI. With just a few extra steps, you can go from basic to bumpin'. Or something. I don't know what the kids say nowadays. 1/

Maps. Maps are rad. I recently used a wardley map for a game design client to help the team create a strategic north star for their project. This sort of strategy work is one of my favorite things to do because, when done correctly, empowers the whole team.

I blame all of you for not telling me how great the Star Wars deck building game is. Running a 4 player game at Timpcon!

Demon's Mirror is a fascinating merge of roguelike, deckbuilder, and match-3 genres. However, it also struggles with certain UX problems that are endemic to roguelikes especially. Tooltips are crucial to deliver complex info, but can easily become hard to read and understand.

Gamejams are wonderful for professional growth in a lot of ways, but one way they can let you down is a lack of feedback while you're developing. It's unrealistic and unhelpful. It's why in Fox Hollow Jam 3, we are providing live critique sessions during the jam to help you level up! Come join us!
