Yeah, the "476 collapse" is based off of a more recent German historiography because it's softer on people's egos to say Rome somehow collapsed when it moved its capital to Anatolia than it is to say the Roman Empire was ultimately conquered by Sultan Mehmet II, a Muslim ruler.

Ugh, here we go with an alleged collapse in 476AD again. That wasn’t what happened. It was a political transfer of power, beyond that nobody noticed anything in Rome that day. The real power was in Constantinople, where the empire finally ended in 1453.

The Republicans are in culture war mode 24/7. They're single issue voters and that issue is owning the libs at any cost. Democrats don't have anything remotely resembling this single-minded cohesion, let alone a cogent ideological program.
