The screw which fixes the indexing gear of my lathe became loose over time and disappeared somehow. I ordered a new screw. It was an interesting opportunity to learn about the inner parts of my lathe 😎

Some colorful experiments on the lathe using acrylic paint 🎨

Painting acrylic paint on a round wooden piece before switching on the lathe. This silver coat was one of many coats I tried. After applying too much silver paint, I got desperate and just pushed the still wet paint around. Then, I sprayed some water while the piece was spinning. This led to a very fine texture, which finally pleased me enough to call it a day 😅

Removing the excess of the paste. I tried to use some walnut oil, too, hoping to remove the excess easier. I am not sure if that was necessary. Turning the inner part. Sanding the outer rim. Applying hard wax oil at the end.

This piece took me quite a while to make. It is made from oak, which I brushed, dyed and where I applied golden paste to highlight the grain.

Once it was the leg of a cabinet used by my great-grandma. Then, it was left to rot for decades. But now it is reborn as a wooden bell 😎

I charred the surface of this bowl made from oak. Did I make it better or worse? 😅

Charring the bowl using a blowtorch. Brushing the surface. This created an interesting texture with deep rills. Surface after applying hard wax oil. The shine is pretty nice, especially in bright sunlight. The edge with the end grain got an interesting rough structure.

Here is another bowl I made last week during a workshop: Alder wood with a burned rim, this time with a bit more unusual design.

Last weekend I joined a two-day wood turning workshop about turning bowls. Here is the first bowl I finished there. The dark rim was made using a blowtorch, which is an interesting and yet easy-to-make design element.

I recently finished this square bowl made from some lovely oak. I tried hard wax oil as a finish for the first time, and I am quite satisfied with the result.

Square bowl before applying the finish. The bowl just after applying the first coat of hard wax oil, and before removing the excess. I applied two coats in total. The used hard wax oil is from the company PNZ. The finished bowl under natural lighting conditions. After letting the hard wax oil dry, I polished the surface slightly with some cloth, which slightly increased the shine. The finished bowl tilted slightly differently.

I made a bowl from robinia using black dye and gold paste on the outside to highlight the exciting grain patterns. 😎

Side view of the bowl. I first brushed the wood, then dyed it and later applied the gold paste. After that, I removed the excess of the gold paste, leading to the nice contrast between gold and black. Another side view from another angle. I finished the bowl using walnut oil and wax. I made a bowl from some lovely Australian wood, which is probably marri. The wood was very difficult to work with, and so the bowl became much smaller than initially planned 😅
