Celebrating bean pods #Fabaceae
The seed pod of the most beautiful tree in the world, Amherstia nobilis, the Pride of Burma. This species is extinct in the wild.

Abrus precatorius, rosary pea, olinda (Sinhala), kundu-mani (Tamil).
A pantropical climber, common in coastal areas of #SriLanka. The seeds contain the poisonous substance abrin. In India, the seeds were used as goldsmiths' weights (2 seeds apparently = 1 carat).

Memecylon umbellatum, Blue Mist #Melastomataceae. A small tree or large shrub from #SriLanka & South India. Found in the dry zone of the island, especially in coastal areas.
A yellow dye produced from the leaves was used in the past for dyeing handloom mats. A medicinal plant used in Ayurveda.
