Or, there is an excessive reliance on code being bug-free or letting customers being beta testers. Which would be fine for products sold for a couple of bucks but not when talking about EVs or >1000€ electronics

As much as I dislike the current tech leaders, this is spectacularly reductive. Silicon Valley did indeed create most of the technologies we use today, not just "apps"

We would have been fine with closer, smaller communities and a working Google. Not perfect, but fine.
