@jaxroam.bsky.social The main problem seems to be that only a single truck manufacturer (#scania) is interested in the technology.

According to a video from the #elektrotrucker this lack of competition is currently one of the main barriers for more interest in the technology by logistics […]

What experience do you have with lending people, that have a slight interest in trying out Linux for the first time, a hand?

Even though I nowadays like to use Fedora and only used Arch for 9 months on my own PCs, I think the greatest thing about Arch is the learning experience and what it teaches people about computers.

When I recommend Arch, I always get bombarded with questions the first couple of days. But as […]

@Linux_Is_Best How does Brave get anything in return if someone downloads their free browser (or forks their source code) and uses it without using Rewards or any of the other monetised features?

Why do you recommend Vivaldi, which is closed source, when Brave and Firefox have the copyleft MPL […]

@sn0n I can't answer this, as I have yet to convince anyone to move their calendars and contacts from Google to somewhere else. The reason is that I am still searching for that "somewhere else".

But I managed to transition a bunch of people to Linux, because their PCs were no longer supported […]

@JorisMeys Correct, it is only available for Pixel phones at the moment.

Aside from that, I would not really recommend unlocking the bootloader on a Samsung phone, as it irreversibly damages the device (triggers an electronic fuse). I would look into disabling / uninstalling apps via ADB or […]

@JorisMeys If you are willing to install a custom operating system, I would recommend a phone with @GrapheneOS.

Should you need to access the Play Store, you can install Google Play on GrapheneOS, but, unlike any other flavour of Android, those Google services get installed as a user app and […]

@sn0n Some people do care (a bit), like my parents, but it always depends.

Always a challenge to convince people to change their behaviour for the greater good. This problem is unfortunately not at all limited to privacy.

Personally I just don't like the single point of failure that a […]

@sn0n It's not something you can recommend to family and friends though, isn't it?

Nextcloud AIO is okay to selfhost with Podman, but I don't really want anyone besides me using it, as I don't want to increase the tech burden and responsibility in my free time even more.

In my ideal world, I […]

@fabiscafe Fair enough.

Maybe we should bring back the notification ticker from early versions of Android (< 5.0). Those didn't interfere with the rest of the screen. But those notifications weren't clickable either ... 🤔
July 14, 2024 at 5:50 PM
@fabiscafe One of the reasons I hate notifications. The other one is that desktops no longer let me disable notification history. So I always have to go to every single device and clear the notifications.

My solution: The only place that notifies me about messages is now my phone. I can then […]
