While not all of these are storytelling traits unique to these genres, they are all motifs that I found vital to both horror and westerns when trying to capture the experience I wanted out of Twilight Country.

- How innocuous character flaws culminate into critical decisions
- subversion of power fantasy
- attraction of oddball characters
- deconstruction of oft romanticized concepts
