What’s on the schedule for today?

*pinches bridge of nose*

This very abused American of Martinsville ‘Dania 2’ dining table.

Other than decades of abuse, missing veneer, gouges, dents and scratches, it has a big old sloppy coat of polyurethane on it.

It’s taken me a year to build up the courage to start work on a replacement shade for the VH Woolums floor lamp I refinished and refitted forever ago. I have 100 yards of paper to practice with. I reckon I ‘should’ have it nailed before I run out…

Globetrotting. Last Bassett sanded to 150 grit and re-glued and all stable. Will refinish and reupholster next week. Then, flying across the Atlantic to visit Denmark, and getting on with my own Johannes Andersen chairs from the breakfast nook / room / sticky-out kitchen bit.

Important to add variety to your routine. So, I’ve done the cabinet FIRST on this nightstand, with the legs to be done LAST.

I know. I’m crazy. Off the leash.

Also, another great of example of “no, they didn’t make things better back then”.

Sideways nail through the spreader.

Giving these very scrummy handles from the Drew set a new lease of life…
May 10, 2025 at 10:09 PM
Getting all the drawers for the Drew bedroom suite vinyl sealed today. With some bonus in-grain painting.

Drawers sitting on top of a new to the workshop United bedroom suite. Busy busy…

Got around to reassembling the G-Plan Librenza ready for my grown up camera and listing pics.

For now, it’s just my phone camera and all the bits you won’t see in the listing pics. Boxes? I got boxes.

Final lap of the bedroom suite strip and sand.

Onto the drawers of the lowboy.
March 17, 2025 at 10:16 PM
I sense drawers in my future, and the stripping thereof…
March 16, 2025 at 4:26 PM
Sleep now.

Wheeled the Drew tallboy back into place having got one of the sides stripped and sanded before the cold finally got to me today. Slow work because of all that polyurethane, but chipping away. Not literally. That would be stupid.

Hadn’t glued anything for at least 12 hours. Was starting to get withdrawal symptoms.

Some more flaps of veneer being re-attached.

Today is brought to you by the word ‘epoxy’…

It’s a warm day. It’s a repairs day.
February 28, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Always be gluing…
February 16, 2025 at 2:55 PM
Preliminary strip, sand, vacuum and wipe down down. Allowing me to see even more horrors, such as the the bottom shelf being haphazardly nailed in - presumably by the person who polyurethaned the damned thing. Lots of tiny repairs needed throughout, but that’s the worst of it tackled.
February 15, 2025 at 10:41 PM
Popped the night stand back in its resting place until another freezing cold day in the garage dawns. On top of the 5 drawer tallboy from the same set. Next to the other nightstand, and in front of the 6 drawer lowboy.

That will all keep me quiet for a while.
February 15, 2025 at 12:03 AM
Well, this is fun. Some surfaces have been polyurethaned and some haven’t.

Can’t wait to start on the 3 other pieces.

Hashtag: fire polyurethane into the sun.

Some more ‘Persian Garden’ items arrived for the slowly growing Homer Laughlin set. And yes, I will be refinishing the table that it’s sat on in the coming weeks.

It’s a Morris of Glasgow.
February 13, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Librenza stool finished…which means that entire job is all done. Just need to clean the mirrors for the dressing table, and have one last clean of the stool cushion. Then stage for photos…

Creeping close to being done with the ‘Librenza’.

Waxed drawer runners last night, and reattached the central drawer handles. Now I’m onto all the mirror hardware. Which I wish I’d seen in place and paid attention to, before it was disassembled.
February 4, 2025 at 6:25 PM
Yeah. Probably won’t attempt to warm the garage up today. I know when I’m onto a hiding…
February 1, 2025 at 4:02 PM
Yesterday was mostly about laying down the colour on the G Plan ‘Librenza’ stool. Today it’ll get a scuff and another coat or two. Then lacquer
January 31, 2025 at 4:39 PM
The temperature is threatening to get to around 'just' freezing today, so I'm hoping I can get into the garage and start work on the G Plan's mirror assembly which is all heavily scratched and messed up. And maybe finish off sanding the stool. Frozen nose permitting.
January 27, 2025 at 4:50 PM
It’s the last of the ‘Librenza’ handles today. And by god, it’s perishing in the garage. The brass finish was / is completely shot on them. Scuffed them back and now it’s time for some bright gold and lacquer.
January 25, 2025 at 9:05 PM
A couple of days last week were ‘less’ cold, by which I mean ‘not-bone-shatteringly awful’, which allowed me to tone and lacquer the middle drawer of the G Plan. Still have the handles for it to do. And stool. And mirror assembly. And upholstery.
