The car brands that once found themselves under British Leyland, restored and shown at the 2025 Concours d’Elegance at Ngong Racecourse here in Nairobi. British cars were plentiful on our roads pre-BL and the Japanese invasion.

This species of trees on our farm bloom with small flowers to herald southern hemisphere “spring”. Very much like sakura, except they are definitely not cherry blossoms, given the semi-arid nature of the area.

In late 2023, while on a visit to the Chicago area, happily stumbled on a David Goldblatt show “No Ulterior Motive”. Goldblatt’s unique point of view allowed him to explore/document both the black and white worlds of apartheid era South Africa.

Art Defender. In 2015 towards the end of Defender production, JLR commissioned designer and Defender owner Paul Smith to create a one off vehicle. It had 27 different colors, mirroring the British countryside as well as colors reflecting Defender’s roles in the Armed Forces, and other services.

World Land Rover Day. OTD, in 1948, the Rover Car Company unveiled the Land Rover, a utility vehicle they had developed as a stop gap measure to earn some cash before resuming production of regular Rover cars post WWII.
Eventually, the Land Rover outlived Rover itself (which folded in April 2005).
