My apologies, you clearly define the conundrum. On one hand, free speech says just about anything goes, but we now have a media ecosystem devoted to a false fascist narrative that has taken over our country and made it a dictatorship. I believe something needs to change, don’t know what.

I forgot to add broadcast channels got reviewed annually to determine whether they were operating for public good. Yeah, very vague, but that was the hook that allowed the FCC to moderate content. I’m sure there are better mechanisms.

It was actually simple, broadcasting was considered a public domain, and in order to get a license, you must agree to terms that included not saying the swear words, and making public service announcements, all long gone now, and how are we better off?

Yeah, because back in the 1980’s when cable took over that authority, actually license to broadcast became moot and then the licensing went away too. You might need to go back a few decades, but it was there, along with some odd hangovers like the “seven words” you can’t say on air.

Yeah, I agree. Media should have an obligation to accurately describe the facts, and “peace plan” is not truthful nor is it an accurate description. It is deception and propaganda!!!

Yeah, everything was broken with the shift to cable and then streaming. Did you notice that the 30 minute nightly news is pretty straight up even on the local Fox channel? That has to comply with FCC guidelines. All the rest falls under other rules (being generous).
