New mix for the good people at Palpebrae – a rerecorded version of a set I played at a small gathering in Aranjuez back in September at a farmhouse just outside Madrid. The mix takes cues from Wim Wenders’ “Paris, Texas” – both Ry Cooder's soundtrack and the visuals.

This year has been particularly rich with releases in the "spoken word over music of varying degrees of abstraction" genre, so I'm putting together a short list of favorites. I won't describe the musical or conceptual components of these albums - instead, a quote from each that stuck in my memory.

My recent "Building Bridges" episode covers New Weird Finland – a Finnish scene from the late '90s/2000s around Tampere's Fonal label. Music blending psychedelia, folk, electronics, and free improvisation. Organized chaos meets naive melodies. 🍃

For some reason, I've been stumbling upon lots of gamelan-related music lately, so I'd love to share some that's been on my rotation these couple of weeks (please recommend me more, I love gamelan!):

My new release "Nothing is Anchored" is out now on Lisbon's Rotten \ Trash label, a sub-label of Rotten \ Fresh (which Bandcamp once called the most exciting label in Lisbon's underground scene).

Oh wow, really excited about this one. Czech shoegaze is great, with Ecstasy of St. Theresa being one of the finest shoegaze acts out there.

The new episode of my show "Building Bridges" on Radio Relativa is now available. It's dedicated to ambient and experimental music from across Eastern and Central Europe. Give it a listen!

Absolutely blown away by the beautiful new record from Barcelona's Seward. Hadn't heard of them before, but this is simply outstanding. Reminds me of some of Long Fin Killie's best moments, but with a folkier sound. Good stuff.
