finished this yesterday. as always, driscoll is extremely good at showing just how brutal imperialism was in east asia. extremely graphic incidents are shown, and i definitely liked the rawfare angle, which showed europeans as extractors of resources and human resources

finished reading this one last week. as a history of energy consumption, i think the premise is more or less objectively the correct way to view it. there is no 'transition' when it comes to energy resources. older methods and forms get used in the production process of new ones
