So pleased, after an anxious hour searching amongst the Greenfinches and Chaffinches scavenging under some pine trees, to see this glorious male Hawfinch in the gardens of Basildon Park country house in Berkshire. My first in about 8 years.

1/3 Back in WW2 and the years immediately afterwards under, firstly FDR and then Truman, USA was indeed a great country. America gave of their blood and treasure very generously. And followed it up with the hugely generous Marshall plan
