Without context, I honestly thought this was a TWEWY style split screen game and spent far too long trying to figure out how the controls worked…

I concluded it must be a co op game.

I recently replayed Black and I was shocked at how terrible its options menu is.

We've come a long way as an industry, but all of that progress cost (and still costs) increasing amounts of time and money.

(Actually, think of the increasing timelines of indie games too - time is money is too true!)

To be clear; I don't blame them, to a degree. We live in a society and it's hard to make games and eat when there's no money.

…focus testing their games into a bland paste so they "appeal" to the biggest audience and therefore can recoup their costs.

I often speculate that publishers and devs grind their games "one notch lower" just to be sure.

Uh, yes? There’s nothing like playing a classic “good” game and noticing the rough edges and barbs that would be filed off even at an indie level these days.

And conversely, non-indie scale games have become so expensive to make that publishers force their studios to play it safe…
