A key part of the oppression of LGBTQ+ folks in the past was simply withholding knowledge- about these identities, that there were others out there like you, that these were things that you can do with your body. It would be extremely difficult to go back to that (though of course not impossible).

Yes! It's always bothered me when conservatives would make NewSpeak comparisons talking about pronouns or "new genders." Like, no, the entire point of NewSpeak was to make certain thoughts impossible by getting rid of words for them. Creating new words to name new ideas is the exact opposite.
