Finally, we enable the new animations for that occupation, and the end result is one new set of looks and animations for one new occupation. Here you can see the farmers in action in-game!

Godot has excellent spritesheet support, so this animation is then imported into the correct character scene using the animation slicer

We then run a post-processing script to normalize the images and turn each set of animation images into a spritesheet that can be used in #godot

This has to be repeated and checked for all animations which applies to that occupation.

When everything looks good, we render out all the different character animations with a customized Blender presets for the art style in 4 directions.

In addition to this, animations has to fit inside a predefined frame, so it sometimes means adjusting things to make sure you don't get randomly disappearing objects, hands or hats.

One important part of the animation work is weight painting the model and adjusting things to make sure we get as little "clipping" as possible, and the right amount of "quirk" in the animation.

After this, @thondal.bsky.social starts modelling the characters and animations in #blender.

It sometimes goes without hiccups, other times you get nightmare fuel.

We also discuss animation specifics: how their work, walk or other animations should behave.

Sometimes this involves posting gifs of well oiled farmer men. Sometimes it does not. We simply don't know until we've been there.

It all starts with ideation, a brainstorming, or just a throwing of ideas until we find the look and feel of the character.

At this stage we look at various other games, discuss proportions, quirks, etc.
