The goal of the Healthy Learning Mind (Terve Oppiva Mieli) research project is to enhance the attention, self-regulation, learning, mental health, and overall well-being of children and adolescents. These skills are linked to the curriculum's education on emotional and interpersonal skills.

Our study highlights how understanding differential exon usage can improve the diagnosis and prognosis of titin-related diseases. This could be applied to other genetic disorders, as 70% of the human genes show variable exon usage. @myofinlab.bsky.social

Dental caries, gingivitis, and excess weight are common health conditions in children, sharing similar risk factors. We investigated whether caries or gingivitis precedes the development of excess weight in early adolescence.

In our genetic sequencing study of over 1,000 FinnDiane study participants with type 1 diabetes, we uncovered clues that might help understand why some of the individuals develop diabetic kidney disease.

X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) is a rare inherited eye disease that mostly affects young boys and leads to progressive vision loss. A recent Finnish study – the largest of its kind – followed 52 XLRS patients over several years to better understand the condition

2024 was once again a successful year for the research groups in obtaining external funding. The total funding for 2024 was EUR 9.8 M. External funding accounted for 44%, compared to 45% in 2023.

The high quality of our scientific output in 2024 is demonstrated by the distribution of published articles across the three JuFo classes. Over a quarter of the 186 JuFo-ranked publications belonged to the highest class (class 3).
