“When I first became aware of gargoyles carved upon churches and illustrated in manuscripts, I recognised these creatures from my own imagination and I made my own paintings of these scaled, clawed, horned, winged beasts … “

This nice house on a double
-sized lot on 42nd Street. All garden in the back, along with a barn that was standing when the owner’s parents moved in in the 1940s. Spent most of my time in the city in a wooden rowhouse. Miss it a lot.

And right before I voted, I traded in my old Queens library card for this one.

Great to see this planned for NYC. Finland has been supplying baby boxes to newborns & their families since 1949! Since then, other countries have been supplying them too, including Scotland, since 2017. Much needed, and a symbol of a society that cares.

“It is a sort of family, a very strange family. Most of my staff have been with me a very long time and we are very close. Eighty per cent of my customers are regulars and we are all close to each other. We help each other through everything. To be honest, I do not know what I would do without it.”

“On the road to the French house, Lesley performed with a python in cabaret before graduating to managing a strip club in Old Compton St in 1979, where admission cost 50p and senior customers brought sandwiches to stay all day.”

Have been spending time with a solitary ring-necked pheasant. What a splendid bird it is. It’s stayed in the same patch of brush for a week at least, and it tolerates my presence as long as I’m not too close. Yesterday, a bit of excitement as an otter dashed by, heading straight for the pond.

Whiling away a bus ride looking at cats. If I could actually get a cat right now either of these would be divine.

I like seeing so many terriers and terrier mixes represented in the photographs. This one looks so much like our own dog — Charlie/Charles/Chazza, or Bogdan (his middle name) when misbehaving — that it’s quite uncanny. Surely an ancestor.

These popped up on a nearby street today. Are they parasol mushrooms, false parasols (!), or something completely different. Have no #mycological knowledge.
