I'm curious if we can compare pro-con arguments allowing artificially-generated child abuse material. Seems to be a practical argument: it's hard to tell, so now law enforcement/society has to split hairs, and a moral argument, not along your black box lines but more like "vice degrades the user."

It is so easy to fall into hopelessness after seeing our collective decisions to do almost nothing about climate change. Thank you for your work and for reminding us that the people who know the most about climate change have not given up.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. So valuable to have these truths when the narrative we non-specialists are submerged in is "oh the ancient world was different"

This seems to be mostly about modern textbooks overlaying a "happy slave" narrative on the ancient world. The slaves in the Plautus citations are clearly miserable, even if their suffering is played for laughs. Did I miss something?

Do love hearing how expensive "I" am when 60% of the amount the contracting company pays goes straight to the agency.

I've enjoyed the comprehensible input approach so far. For practicing speaking, I haven't done these yet but they are on my list: Interview method by Robin MacPherson www.youtube.com/watch?v=twUS... and daily self-recording by Elysse DaVega www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jlp...

At that age, I went to check it out at at the library because I'd liked Rabbit Hill. The librarian kindly suggested I should try another book. Grateful!

Sorry, all I mean is that I can understand the rule and still be baffled when it comes time to use it. Grammar study can clear up some mysteries. But there's no substitute for practice, even when I try to take a shortcut!

True, but OTOH focusing on the rule is not the same as "getting it". --Speaking as someone who wrote a long paper about a feature I had trouble using in the hopes of understanding it. It did not work.

Hindi postpositions keep showing up when I want Hebrew prepositions. Possibly because of the Persian influence in some of Hindi, or more likely because my brain network for Hebrew went stale.

I wrote a macro to take a sheet full of text (like a subtitle file) and convert it to a frequency-based list of words for vocab study. Little ping of joy every time I use it. Now, actually learning the words, hm...
