Bud, you're missing my point. The position will be filled eventually, yes, but the House can't do business until it is. And Reps don't have the best track records for doing that quickly. You can't replace Mike Johnson with the fabled decent Republican, but you can throw sand in the gears.

Yeah, you might notice the difference between "next in line" and "most likely candidate". Speakers don't have a line of succession.

I think you need to remember that Trump can't wave a magic wand and make elections disappear. He might want to eliminate elections, but what mechanism does he use to do that? If your imagination can't tell you that, it's not very useful.
