Why do so many big companies fail at innovation even when the CEO says it’s a priority? Here’s a great take from @ericries.bsky.social from my recent podcast episode:

Because they lack constancy of purpose.

I've always ❤️ this visual. It shows how Moz used NET ADDS as their One Metric That Matters - a business health indicator to help them ask better questions within each department.

It shows the power of measuring what matters and then leveraging that to diagnose good or bad things.

I like this example from Airbnb.

Universal truth = people like to travel to new places (not ALL people, but a lot do)

The most ridiculous one I ever heard: # of features

I've always been a big fan of Lean Startup's Build -> Measure -> Learn Cycle. But also felt like it wasn't detailed enough to really provide a template for how to iterate / experiment quickly.

That's why I created the Lean Analytics Cycle with @acroll.bsky.social

The cat never jumped on the counters until the dog arrived. He used to look up from the floor, judging the distance and then didn’t bother.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Dog arrived. Cat figured out how to jump on the counters real fast.
