We want the war horse.
Jesus rides a donkey.

We want the eagle.
The Holy Spirit descends as a dove.

We want to take up swords.
Jesus takes up a cross.

We want the roaring lion.
God comes as a slaughtered lamb.

We keep trying to arm God.
God keeps trying to disarm us.

@trevorbrady.bsky.social @mmontgomery.bsky.social last podcast was great except I now have zero expectations of any greatness this season having a lame duck ownership situation.

@3fitzrsl.bsky.social there was a 1-0 RSL win at Seattle with a really weird own goal by the keeper (keller?) on an Espindola shot right? The keeper had the shot in his hands then scooped it into his own net

Day 28 BHM, bonus book. Someone suggested this book so I checked it out from the library. Quick read and really good. Every American should read at least one of MLK's books.

Day 28 BHM, last day. This last one is multiple crazy stories about wrongly incarcerated black men and a black lawyer working to save them. Another heavy one but well worth reading.

Day 27 BHM, this book is so funny, sad, and interesting... it's a must read. Just see Trevor's last stand up special. We could learn a lot from his life.

Day 26 BHM, Memoir from ablack woman's perspective growing up in a white world around her.

Day 25 BHM, I really only had misconceptions about Malcolm X. This book was really good. His conversion to Islam and trip to Mecca was one of many turning points in his life.

Day 24 BHM, the history of racist ideas in America and how to change course for the future.
February 24, 2025 at 1:23 PM
Day 23 BHM, a compelling YA read that some places have banned, which should tell you it's worth reading (it is).
February 23, 2025 at 3:56 PM
Day 22 BHM, this is a short, easy read. There is plenty of good insight on things you might be afraid to ask.

Day 21 BHM, this is a long and thorough book. Obama's story is obviously remarkable. Maybe go for the audio and double the speed.

Day 20 BHM, mandatory to have James Baldwin on the list. He was ahead of his time.
February 20, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Day 19 BHM, how the war on drugs and tough on crime policies have perpetuated racial inequality. Another sobering read.
February 19, 2025 at 4:11 PM
Day 18 BHM, I heard Kiese on a podcast and had to check out the book. Been a while since I read this, just remember it being pretty true to the title.

Day 17 BHM, Will Smith hasn't been in good light recently. Dude was on top of the world for years. This book is still worth reading. Even the bit on him getting cast for Fresh Prince is great.

Day 16 BHM, Jackie's life is remarkable. Breaking the color barrier, going through tragedy, he's an incredible man.
February 16, 2025 at 4:20 PM
Day 15 BHM, another incredible story. Terry is really open about his addiction and trauma he suffered. Really a great book.
February 15, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Day 14 BHM, I had the audio on this one. Viola's story is really, really good with a lot of adversity. From living in an apt with no heat to fighting for roles in film. She is a force.

Day 13 BHM, more fiction with some crazy suspense. I don't read a lot of thriller books. The type of book that will make you want to know more about what the characters are thinking.
February 14, 2025 at 6:39 AM
Day 12 BHM, fiction, maybe YA? At any rate, this was good. When you're forced to connect with people, different experiences and perspectives.
February 14, 2025 at 6:35 AM
Day 11 BHM, another sobering read, this one on post slavery fight for equality. I heard the author interviewed on Armchair Expert. Both were really good.
February 11, 2025 at 12:59 PM
Day 10 BHM, a great look at what it feels like to realize you're different. The standards of beauty are a strange thing.
February 10, 2025 at 5:01 PM
Day 9 BHM, I heard Chris Paul on a few podcasts talking about his book/life. His NBA career has been pretty amazing and he's just a level headed dude. Fun read on this one.
