F Minus is exposing the extent to which fossil fuel lobbyists also represent people, communities, and businesses being harmed by the climate crisis.

🗓 Join us Nov. 12th for “Oregon’s Dirty Secret: the Public School and PERS lobbyists who secretly work for oil, gas, and chemical companies,” a public briefing on how to align Oregon’s investments with its values. actionnetwork.org/events/orego...

We are looking for 5 more bold parents in Oregon ready to take on forever chemicals to become F Minus activists. Do you know anyone you'd recommend? Please send them our way!

When even a “green” state says no to a PFAS ban (looking at you California!), we need to follow the money... AND the LOBBYISTS.

Oregon’s public institutions can lead where California stumbled.

“It’s cynical and sick that the same lobbyists who helped convince Gov. Newsom to veto this PFAS ban actually lobbied for the ban at the same time on behalf of water agencies and other clients who desperately need help cleaning up PFAS,” -James Browning, Executive Director | F Minus

Elon Musk caused the harm. Now his lobbyists are charging your community to clean it up.

Today F Minus launched a database of every Congressional and state lobbying firm that works for Elon Musk.

Many of these firms also lobby on behalf of mainstream and progressive clients being devastated by DOGE.

Brown & Weinraub's own website exposes their duplicity on climate. The firm touts its work for e-bikes and e-scooters, which is completely in conflict with its client work aiming to block the Climate Change Superfund Act and other bills.
December 11, 2024 at 6:57 PM
Further, Brown & Weinraub maintains Costco as a client, a company which states that it believes in a “just transition” in response to the #climatecrisis in its published climate commitments. There is no just transition if we don’t #MakePollutersPay for the #climate loses & damages they created.

The firm also represents publisher Houghton Mifflin, which publishes a bounty of books in support of #climateaction, including the 2016 book depicted here. Yet the firm simltaneously lobbies for Shell, a Koch Industries subsidiary, American Petroleum Institute, & handfuls of others.
December 11, 2024 at 6:57 PM
Many of these lobbyists backing #fossilfuels also work for clients who purport to be green. Brown & Weinraub represents Google, for example, as referenced above. Google is a sustainability leader within Big Tech.

NY's #fossilfuel lobbying firms, like Brown & Weinraub, are desperately trying — though the #MakePollutersPay movement has different plans in mind — to keep Gov. Hochul from signing the Climate Change Superfund Act.
December 11, 2024 at 6:57 PM
What’s going on in #NewYork with the Climate Superfund Act? Just Google it. It's time to #MakePollutersPay.
December 11, 2024 at 6:57 PM
Outrageously, though, this same thing happens every day in statehouses nationwide, where F Minus has exposed more than 1500 #fossilfuel lobbyists who also lobby fors environmental groups andmunicipalities impacted by #climatechange, educational bodies tasked with acting on #climate, etc.

That's because LA County uses lobbying firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, which also lobbies for Western Independent Refiners in CA. The firm also lobbies for Brightline Defense, a Bay Area environmental justice group. It's time advocating for climate justice to ditch their fossil fuel lobbyists.

Ventura County's Mountain Fire burned neaarly 20,000 acres and destroyed nearly 200 structures, including dozens of homes. Nextdoor Los Angeles County arguably aided in fueling the fire, though, despite its carbon neutrality by 2050 goal and interim goals in between.

This raises Q: will #Chicago divorce itself from its fossil fuel lobbyists? Or remain part of metaphorical "fourth house," another conflict of interest fueling state's "culture of corruption." Even if the state continues along the path, Chicago can lead by divesting from its fossil fuel lobbyists.
November 20, 2024 at 6:45 PM
The city’s pension fund shares a lobbying firm w/ Phillips 66, another company named in the suit. Lobbying firm Phelps Barry also represents U of IL, which has come under increasing pressure to divest from fossil fuels from campus activists.

Some examples! Great piece by the Nevada Current.
