Had to do roof maintenance before winter arrives in earnest, and was delighted to find a little lichen sanctuary on my chimney.
I like that they're such slow lifeforms. I like that these may have been here before I was born, and will hopefully be here long after I'm gone.

A few Vornado tips:
- The minerals that would go in the air end up in the paper wicks which get crusty and stop absorbing water. You can make them last longer by soaking in vinegar and rinsing.
- The units are expensive new but I see them in thrift stores occasionally and always pick them up.

I've been lucky enough to work with some of the best astronomers in the world, and I'm continuously humbled by what they can achieve with a handful of photons.✨

I just returned from an overseas trip, and can report that ANA's current safety video features Pokemon™ and is very cute.
However, their deplaning video is an extended story about Pikachu getting lost in the airport, and after 8 exhausting hours in the air I was NOT emotionally ready for that. 😭

One of my favorite "nerds rock" moments is atomic clock enthusiast Tom Van Baak putting his kids (and a couple surplus cesium clocks) in his minivan and driving to the top of Mt. Rainier to look for time dilation. Which he saw.

This is from before they put dates on bottles. It was almost definitely purchased before 1980, and possibly before 1970. My mom was never good at throwing things out, and when I found this in her kitchen after she passed I couldn't either. ❤️
