Oh, 100% agree. It's just unfortunate that there will be people who will pin you as "selfish" or "disingenuous " if you would ask for an ounce of kindness back. Another variable that is exhausting to deal with.

Going back to the original topic here, yeah, having some reciprocation from being kind does help. To me, that's normal, as long as it's not coming from the mindset of expecting and / or feeling entitled of that said kindness back.

If I may chime in on this; when hate feels like it's slowly being the "norm" nowadays, being kind in any level takes a lot out of a person. Since we all can't mind read each other, we can't tell who would take that kindness for granted.
