I was taught in medical school that in 1900, TB was the #1 cause of death in the US. These stats from much stats.com say #3 behind influenza and pneumonia but no matter, that’s unacceptable.

We won’t go back.

FWIW, belated reply letters from the AK's US Senators hit my inbox today.

The only reply I ever have rec'd from Rep Begich III's ofc was to a personal email to his Deputy CoS letting him know the web email page didn't seem to be working.

Begich has sent ZERO official correspondence on anything.
Belated, lengthy letter received by email on 29 Jul 2025 from Sen Dan Sullivan attempting to justify the 21 Jun bombing of Iran. In part: "I commend the President and our brave servicemembers for their flawless execution of this historic mission. Additionally, the willingness of President Trump to take decisive, aggressive actions, which would have been unthinkable under the Biden administration, allowed this mission to be an incredible success. In response to Operation Midnight Hammer, Iran launched over a dozen missiles at the Al Udeid U.S. base in Qatar on June 23, all of which were intercepted. President Trump meant what he has been saying for years—Iran will never get a nuclear bomb. I commend the President and his national security team for making this important but difficult decision and our brave military members for carrying it out. The terrorist leaders of Iran have, in essence, been at war with the United States for decades—targeting, wounding and killing thousands of American service members for years. Making sure the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism never gets a nuclear weapon is part of the work of reestablishing deterrence against Iran, which was lost during the appeasement of the Biden Administration. This is difficult work, but critical for our national security. I fully support the President and his national security team in these critical efforts." 1 of 2, key section fr Sen Murkowski: According to federal estimates, H.R. 1 will enable the typical worker to retain an additional $4,000-$7,200 every year, and the typical family of four an average of an additional $7,600-$10,900 every year. This is accomplished through the extension of lower income tax rates; a permanent $2,200-per-child tax credit; tax exemptions on some tips and overtime earnings through 2028; no taxes on loans for American-made automobiles; and a new $6,000 deduction that will offset the taxes that most elderly Americans pay on their income from Social Security. ...invests $25 billion to modernize the Coast Guard, an effort that will include the construction of new cutters and icebreakers, as well as funding to homeport the Storis in Juneau...It provides more than $12 billion for aviation safety, including funding for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Don Young Alaska Aviation Safety Initiative, and for new weather observing systems and cameras... ...We have restored access, leasing, and functional development programs in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A), Coastal Plain, and Cook Inlet, and Alaska will receive a 40 percent increase in the share of revenues from the projects facilitated by this bill starting in Fiscal Year 2034. We attempted to restore sustainable timber harvesting and invested billions of dollars to help establish domestic supply chains for critical minerals, which our state has in abundance... ...I recognize that tens of thousands of Alaskans depend on Medicaid and SNAP for health coverage and food, so I worked hard to ensure the reconciliation bill would not force the loss of coverage or benefits through direct cuts. I also pushed for changes to harmful provisions that would have cost our state tens of millions of dollars per year. part 2of2: ...contains no direct Medicaid cuts for Alaska and instead features a Rural Health Transformation Program for the country that I successfully doubled from $25 billion to $50 billion...Alaska should receive at least $200 to $300 million annually from that fund over the next five years to help our hospitals, community health centers, and other rural providers while improving our state Medicaid system overall...important exemptions and delays for requirements to work, attend school, or volunteer under Medicaid and SNAP... ...While work requirements have been in place for SNAP for years, H.R. 1 establishes work requirements for the first time in Medicaid...apply only to the Medicaid expansion population...I included exemptions for those traveling for medical care not available in their community and provided flexibility for seasonal workers who may not have regular monthly employment. Both Medicaid and SNAP have exemptions for work requirements for Tribal members; parents, guardians, or caretakers of children under the age of 14; and those who live in communities with limited job opportunities—on top of existing exemptions for pregnant women and those who are medically unfit for work. I also secured a delay in the implementation for work requirements for both Medicaid and SNAP, providing the State of Alaska a longer runway to build out their new systems and plan for implementation. ...Another major misconception is that without my support, H.R. 1 would have failed. That is simply not true: had I opposed the measure, Senate Republican leadership would have made a deal with another Senator who wanted steeper cuts to various federal programs, specifically Medicaid, and a lower increase to the federal debt limit. The cost would have been the protections I added for Alaska and other states, with more harm to vulnerable Americans and a heavier burden for our state government. Regardless of what I did, this bill would have become law...

A loved one on SSDI/Medicaid was recently prescribed 3 special use drugs. This is one.

Another is called Uptravi. As best I can find, it retails for around $200,000/yr. No wonder she's still waiting approval.

This is why we fight both the Cruel Party & the medical industrial complex.

Last half of letter from Sen Murkowski regarding BBB (first half reviews terms of 2017 TCJA in favorable light): "Tax reform also plays an important role in placing our country on a more responsible fiscal path. The TCJA was the most significant overhaul of the federal tax code in more than three decades. Many individual tax provisions, including the standard deduction and rates for individual filers, are scheduled to sunset at the end of 2025. Key business-related provisions – including deductions for pass-through income and research and development expensing – will phase out between 2025 and 2028. I will weigh how best to support working families, promote fairness, and ensure fiscal responsibility. While I supported the TCJA, I have reservations about this year’s reconciliation process, which has targeted Medicaid for significant cuts and is projected to add several trillion dollars to the federal debt. I support reasonable spending levels, reforms that will create efficiencies, and eliminating wasteful or abusive practices within the federal government. However, I do not support efforts to balance the budget at the expense of our most vulnerable populations. In times of fiscal constraint, it is critical to find the right balance between responsible budgeting and maintaining essential services for those who depend on them. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for Alaska’s priorities and work with my colleagues. Congress must make appropriate choices to keep our debt and deficit under control. It is our obligation to do so and a challenge that we cannot afford to ignore."
