Amanda Gray Hilyer (24 March 1870 – 29 June 1957) was an African American entrepreneur, pharmacist, civic worker, and civil rights activist. She was the first black woman to own and operate a pharmacy in Washington D.C.

On January 4, 1942, Dr. Mathew Perry opened a school for Licensed Practical Nurses in Fayetteville for African Americans. It operated at least through 1950 and many graduates were hired by the federal hospital at Fort Bragg.

The Sanitary Pad was developed by a black woman named Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner of Monroe, NC.
Mary's invention was initially rejected due to racial discrimination. Her invention proved to be too important to be ignored and was later accepted in 1956 - 30 years later. #blackhistory

Edward A. Bouchet was the first Black American to earn a doctorate in physics from any American university, achieving this historic milestone at Yale in 1876. In recognition of his legacy, Yale and Howard University established the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society in 2005. #blackhistory365

Bridget “Biddy” Mason was born enslaved in 1818 and forced to suffer grueling conditions. After gaining freedom in 1856, Mason worked as a nurse and midwife and eventually became one of the richest women in California. She used her money to start a daycare center and fund community care efforts.✊🏾
