My mom could blow your eardrums out when she’d stick two fingers in her mouth to whistle my brother and me home. Which is good, because we lived in a small valley surrounded by Forest Service land in the Black Hills of South Dakota (1970s-‘80s). Our nearest neighbors were over a mile away.
