I can’t message you directly, so I’m replying to your most recent post to tell you that today I listened to “Boca Raton” and it will haunt me for days to come. My ceiling fan is haunting me. I am not reducing your story to a ceiling fan. I just find myself lying awake and staring at it as I worry.

No. To pardon Jack Smith would unfortunately but necessarily imply that Jack Smith had done something needing pardon. As much as I’d like to shield Jack Smith & other honorable public servants from retribution, we don’t want to feed the narrative that it was an illegal or illegitimate prosecution.

More alarming still is that he is pledging to purge longtime “career” employees from all agencies and Cabinet departments. Those are the very people who would supply needed expertise and institutional knowledge, while serving as guardrails against his political appointees.

It’s our messaging, or the way we relay our message. We have to somehow get it through people’s heads that we are the party looking out for the middle class and the working class (and those don’t differ much.) We have not convinced them. I say this as a diehard and left-leaning Democrat.
