It’s August, but a decently sized @uniessexgov.bsky.social Institutions group met today for our monthly reading workshop to discuss @sascenciob.bsky.social’s super interesting working paper on gender quotas and intraparty battles. No presentation, just reading and discussion. Good group, this.

Great research workshop yesterday with our @mccra-essex.bsky.social team discussing our paper drafts on multilingualism, conflict and conflict resolution in Africa, as well as our fieldwork plans. Lots more to come. @uniessexgov.bsky.social @odi.global

This seems to have been the first question asked at yesterday's press conference. By the BBC. Make it make sense. 🤯

Soon coming to your institution, too, to tell you about the many ways fieldwork fails.

The @mccra-essex.bsky.social team has kicked off data collection and fieldwork in Cameroon this week to explore the link between practised multilingualism, conflict and conflict resolution. Here are Angiachi and Mayowa during a meeting. Interesting months ahead.

Looking forward to presenting our new project today with @chrisguarnold.bsky.social at @lsemethodology.bsky.social. We explore how to look at archived qualitative data with multimodal machine learning. Very early stages, so we are very much looking forward to feedback. #methodology #reuseandrecycle

Even with the whole HE mess, it’s so nice to be part of a department where people fundamentally agree it’s important to show up, eg for the Department of Government’s Xmas party. Happy holidays 🌵🎄

Day 1 of 3 of our Multilingualism, Conflict & Conflict Resolution workshop at ODI in London. Grateful to ESRC for funding, and very exciting to have our African coinvestigators here in the UK! Much better to be planning out projects in person. But sad that two of the team had their visas rejected.
