✨ As a surprising observation in the ESD-STM images of the polymers, we found that some of the polymer chains close over themselves, suggesting the formation of cycles composed of up to 15 macrocycle-thiophene repeat units. 4/5

⚡The macrocycles retain their excellent redox properties in the polymer. Furthermore, the polymers did not dissolve in the electrolyte used for film CV measurements, enabling reversible redox behavior in solid-state applications.

🔬 In collaboration with the Heeney group (KAUST & Imperial), Plasser group (Loughborough), and Costantini group (Birmingham), we introduce a novel approach: incorporating conjugated macrocycles into polymer backbones! No aliphatic side chains needed—yet the polymers remain soluble. 2/5

🚀New Preprint!🚀
Conjugated polymers are important for organic electronics, but they usually require side chains for solubility that compromise other properties. What if there was another way?
