The poem Undergrad Halloween by Alex Cregan, accessible in Abridged 0-104: Legion. It reads: 'Undergrad Halloween We cast those bodies in the bonfire that night When rightfully we found ourselves again. We melted, melded into something Other. We rambled about the Ship of Theseus, about Frankenstein and codependency. I imagined myself made by you, maybe, sewn up apart and under your body Heaving and panting, heavy as you claim my arrival as yours. Could you love me? Away from ourselves, we stitched new vessels from autumn leaves Crunchy in our hands and crumbling. Away from you, I’m still by our old bodies, burning. We can make it right again, sloughing off old skins like lizards in the heat. We can fix everything, Maybe.' The poem Transformation Sequence by Alex Cregan featured in the engine idling's Trashy Daydreams issue It reads 'Transformation sequence It's always at the eleventh hour when a magical girl realises She can transform. Quick shot, something purple and hulking With teeth the size of her head Waiting to devour her boyfriend Of the week. I always shrieked watching them. Something in the snap from their quaking forms to the flash of light Enveloping their bodies Drew my attention. Glitter everywhere And neon candy colours turning my eyes square. Seizure warnings I'd ignore in dark rooms Past midnight, I was hypnotised. A hand flourish and gloves, A sceptre or a wand. A spin and the glow would give way to A new outfit, new body Built for battle. Words that left mouths agape, Unsure how they knew what to say To land a blow and save the day. I dream, today, Usagi as a burnout dropout, past her prime, A cigarette between her teeth, a cat that only cries. I imagine myself in her body But instead the light Grants me my desire For a boy body with all the frills she'd been provided. My desire for a night Slept between clean sheets Restfully As I scream and vanquish That miserable something.'
