If u ever had to depict proteins as schematics in papers, u know the dilemma: how to create a pretty “blob”?
If structure ends up big & central, u’ll render it with PyMol et al, but for a truly schematic depiction u want a biorender-style icon, but for YOUR protein.
Think I’ve finally found a way.

The synthesis „fails“ and rewards you with WYLID the perfect compound to discuss the Ylid/Enolate Equilibrium in YLID. So happy to see this out now in JAC doi.org/10.1107/S160...

A procedure is presented for the use of effective core potentials during wavefunction-based refinements. The refinement quality of the results is indistinguishable from that of all-electron calculations, with speedups of a factor of 2 for compounds containing heavy elements.

We have had a fantastic time at the Rossendorf Beamline BM20 at the @esrf.fr! Lots of good data, both on XRD and XRF. Now begins the journy of making sense of it.
Luckily the weather just turned nice on our departure day so a small hile in the beautiful Chartreuse massif was also possible.
