i don’t see why it isn’t fair
June 12, 2025 at 6:45 AM
due diligence would mean losing an opportunity to disparage anti-genocide activists
June 10, 2025 at 10:54 PM
do you think the GPS location of a phone someone brought to a protest willingly is as valuable to law enforcement as LiDAR scans and video of everyone in line of sight within a 300m radius of a surveillance machine?
June 10, 2025 at 8:53 PM
prediction: they’re going to argue that this doesn’t count as policing for the purpose of posse comitatus because they’re protecting the agents doing the arresting and not arresting anyone themselves

“they only joined for personal gain, not because they believe in anything”

i believe the back half of it is metal, not the core.
June 9, 2025 at 11:31 PM
are those cameras networked? is the video from them recorded?
June 9, 2025 at 11:01 PM
according to LAPD, they were summoned for the express purpose of their being destroyed.

do you think the LAPD always tells the truth?
June 9, 2025 at 10:49 PM
the feds clearly want to have more awareness of what happens at the protests. the presence of a functional waymo contributes to that awareness.
June 9, 2025 at 10:48 PM
do you think the protests are occuring inside an office building? do you think there are ATMs in the middle of the street?

the FBI is asking for people to identify individuals accused of throwing rocks at law enforcement vehicles, so they obviously don’t have perfect surveillance of the protests.
June 9, 2025 at 10:46 PM
why do you think that obviates complaints about surveillance by waymos?
June 9, 2025 at 10:44 PM
people who do not want their cell phone to report their location can leave their cell phones at home.

what can people who do not want to be surveilled by a waymo when they are in public do about it?
June 9, 2025 at 10:42 PM
why do you think this contradicts my post that you quoted?
June 9, 2025 at 10:41 PM
where did i mention location tracking?

my point is that people object to surveillance machines becoming commonplace or being present at protests because they do not want to be surveilled.

if someone wants their cell phone to not report their location, they can simply not have it on their person.
June 9, 2025 at 10:40 PM
from the other side, passwords are not necessarily compellable. data stored on a personal device is not nearly as accessible to law enforcement as data on a server owned by google.
June 9, 2025 at 10:36 PM
do you have a source for the claim of people requesting waymos to the protests for the purpose of destroying them that isn’t the LAPD?
June 9, 2025 at 10:29 PM
okay, let’s clarify.

about what fraction of the time is a given camera on an iphone turned on and sending footage to a remote server?

about what fraction of the time is a given camera on a waymo on and sending footage to a remote server?

do you think those numbers are the same?
June 9, 2025 at 10:23 PM
do you think the cameras on an iphone have the same degree of uptime and availability to law enforcement as the cameras on a waymo?
June 9, 2025 at 10:19 PM
if you think it’s illegal, why are you crowing about how “the president _can_ federalize the guard”?

i get it, we all contain multitudes, but that’s the boring kind of self-contradiction.
June 9, 2025 at 9:48 PM
i’d say the people talking about flags or waymos etc. are generally doing so because they support the police violence but are embarrassed to say so, not because they are unaware of it
June 9, 2025 at 8:21 PM
what statute do you think allows for the administration to do what is being done? be precise.
