In reality: they needed to invent the myth of constant top-down control to justify the rise of industrial capitalism and modern bureaucracy.

Means testing is expensive and places an outsized burden on people who already need help. Universal pension/UBI, regardless of wealth status. Increase taxes on the most wealthy. Everyone has basic needs met, lowered administrative costs. Boom, problem solved.

A digital apartheid of knowledge.
Polite. Obedient. Dead inside.

This isn’t progress.
It’s a better jail.
