I really don’t know how people look at the state of Soviet preparedness in 1941 and the disaster that was the first year of the war and conclude that Stalin was the only perfect man for the job. Maybe Trotsky, Bukharin or Tuchachevsky would have done better!

I often also think of their reasoning that the Soviet Union needed to collaborate with the Nazis pre-1941 because the SU needed time to prepare for the inevitable war. But then summer of 41 comes around and the SU wasn’t actually prepared at all.

in the end innocent people are still dying and its pretty obvious it would not make a difference to them what the people bombing them believe. What's less defensible is when people just adopt fascist terms uncritically with no difference from how they use them.

People on the left use it to show liberal hypocrisy concerning civilian casualties, how the supposed queer acceptance of the military makes their crimes somehow less then if they werent ostensibly accepting of gay and trans people,

I think its ok when the meaning of the meme is recontextualized. When fascists mock the effectiveness of pink washing, its because they despise growing acceptance of LGBTQ people, they do not care about civilian casualties of brown people.

And its not like public support for a war on Iraq in 2003 just formed organically through public debate or whatever. The Bush admin made the decision to do it and then used fears after 9/11 and outright lies and fabrications to sell it to people, all with total media cooperation.

All the actors in it are white, thats all they care about. Anything else can be ignored, text or subtext. Having to see a black person on tv or film is one of the main things they are raging against.

The Soviet Union was a One Party Social Democracy, and I can admit that its probably better overall to live in a social democratic society then in a neoliberal one, but that certainly doesnt mean its on track to achieving communism. Advocating for achieving communism being the thing MLs hate us for.

Its so weird that this was a big debate. MLs seem pretty content to admit that China has a market economy and has not developed into socialism or communism, much less any system of worker self management, but can't admit the same for the SU?

Its why I love the Irish folk song Arthur Mcbride, about two Irishmen who beat up some British soldiers who try to recruit them. A very un-pacifistic, anti-militarist song.
