5. We believe a flexischooling specific code will clear up much of the confusion around flexischooling and give the government & Ofsted the much needed data the require and currently do not have to monitor the prevalence of flexischooling in England.

Please consider signing our petition. Thank you

4. Code C is a generic authorised absence code, which does not distinguish between flexischooling snd other types of absences. We
believe that flexischooling should have its own attendance code and have launched a petition for this:

Petition: Introduce a distinct attendance code for flexischooling (Code F).
We want the Department for Education to introduce a new attendance code for flexischooling (Code F). We want this code to act in a similar way to code B (educated off site) in that it would not negati...

3. Whilst Code C will not lead to fines for parents, it is considered an absence code, impacting the schools attendance %, despite the fact that the child is in receipt of a full time education. Though the DfE guidance states that schools should not be penalised for agreeing to flexischooling.

2: Flexischooling children are registered at school full time and the school gets full funding.

One of the major discouraging factors for schools agreeing to flexischooling is the impact on their attendance data. Currently, flexischooling should be marked as Code C, authorised absence.

1: Under The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, local authorities would have to agree to flexischooling arrangements, but schools have a personal relationship with families and understanding of the needs of the child.

This is fabulous to hear! Flexischooling can be so beneficial from an inclusion point of view, but also attracting more pupils to small schools!

We have a private facebook group for education professionals, called Flexischooling Practitioners UK. We have several headteachers in the group from schools that actively advertise flexischooling & some that have agreed on a case by case basis.

More than 60% of parents responded that their child is actually ahead of their peers academically. Flexischooling can be a fantastic arrangement for children with SEN, though not all flexischooling arrangements are agreed for this reason.

Whilst flexischooling is not easy to get agreed, we do our best to support parents to navigate this challenging process. Feedback from parents that do get flexischooling agreed is overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority reporting that their child is keeping up with their peers academically..

No, there are no national assessments of flexischooling. The DfE groups flexischooling in with Elective Home Education, but flexischooling would be better placed under schools. We have almost 28,000 members in our facebook group, Flexischooling Families UK….

Parents can take their children on educational trips, no lockdown, no trauma. Flexischooling might not be for everybody, but for children and families, the full time school and full time home education models just aren’t the right fit, which is where flexischooling can help 🙂
May 30, 2025 at 6:02 PM
The great news is, that flexischooling is nothing like lockdown learning. The parent is responsible for providing the education, not the school. Flexischooling parents can tailor the learning to things their children actually enjoy and are interested in.

The demand for flexischooling is growing rapidly! We’ve added 10,000 members to our facebook group Flexischooling Families UK in the last year 😱

We’ve just launched a petition we hope would make it easier for headteachers to agree:

We believe the government and Ofsted would welcome a distinct flexischooling code as this will give them quantifiable data regarding the number of flexischooling pupils there are - something that has never previously been available.

We hope that having a specific code, flexischooling will be legitimised in the eyes of headteachers, who often have never heard of flexischooling as the DfE flexischooling guidance is included in the Elective Home Education guidance.

We have launched a petition requesting that flexischooling is given its own attendance code (Code F). We ask that Code F is not an absence code, but like Code B (educated off site) recognises that the child is receiving a full time education.
April 6, 2025 at 8:02 PM
- As Code C can be used for multiple purposes, we have no statistical data on the number of flexischooling pupils there are or any ability to monitor and compare their outcomes
April 6, 2025 at 8:02 PM
- As Code C is an absence code, headteachers can be hesitant to agree to a flexischooling arrangement, concerned about the impact it would have on their attendance data
April 6, 2025 at 8:02 PM
- Code C is an absence code and suggests the child is missing their education, but flexischooling children are receiving a full time education. Code C does not reflect this
April 6, 2025 at 8:02 PM
At present the Department for Education guidance states that flexischooling should be marked as Code C (authorised absence). We believe Code C is not an appropriate code for flexischooling for the following reasons:
