There was an owl liv'd in an oak
The more he heard, the less he spoke
The less he spoke, the more he heard.
O, if men were all like that wise bird.

A proud heron stands in the water surrounded by a rich choice of fish, but he ignores them. 🐟 In the afternoon he rejects smaller fish as unworthy, preferring to wait for better pickings. But by the evening he is so hungry he settles for a one small, lowly snail. 🐌 #LegendaryWednesday #birds #fable

The Caladrius was a #bird who'd stand at the end of a sick person's bed. 🛌 If the bird met a patient's gaze, it would inhale any illness, rise to the sun burning that sickness away, & the patient would heal. But, if the bird averted its gaze, the patient would not recover. 🪶 #Mythology #Folklore

It'll sound cliche, but there's so much more in the book than either on stage or movie, tho' both are fantastic.
More illustrations by André Castaigne, too. I think you'd really enjoy it: archive.org/details/the-...

Circe, renowned for her knowledge of potions & herbs, transforms her enemies, (& those who offend her) into animals. 🐖 The best known example is from Homer's Odyssey when Odysseus visits her island on the way back from the Trojan War & she changes most of his crew into swine. 🪄 🐷 #FairytaleTuesday
