I think that’s the biggest challenge with the current direction for Fredericton: increased fees, increased density, less parking, less restrictive zoning.. all “should“ make things better eventually, but there is a 10+ year lag before that happens (if done properly). That’s a long time to wait.

Very possible!

I suggested walking around the neighborhood trying to lure kids to the house with candy, but my wife said it was a bad idea.

15 years in this house and still 0 kids. 😕

I’m curious if the big Trump supporters in the PC party, like Brian MacDonald and Doug Williams, have distanced themselves from their original support? I’d think that would no longer be the benefit it once was for them.

Travel shoes (sketchers) at the door, dress shoes in the closet, and hotel crocks on my feet or next to the bed (when in bed).

Thanks folks, I found those but was looking for the 300 page document referred to in the CBC article. I guess that could just be all the smaller documents combined into one.

Do you know of a link to the plan? I have been searching but can’t find any access to the actual document referred to in the article.

Consular services range from the basics of getting passports, to variety of legal support, and then big stuff like support for evacuation in natural disasters, war, etc…

They are just maximizing their options, and shopping around globally for what passport(s) to purchase. In hospitals with much higher percentage of tourist births (such as BC) they require deposits because of high rates of unpaid bills.

No way to collect on the bill, so cost is on the NB health care system. Having lifetime consular services and benefits of a Canadian passport, with no intention of ever living in Canada can have a significant cost. Simple change could be require 3 years in Canada before getting passport.
October 10, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Is that significant and does it burden the health care system? I’m not sure.

Also unclear is how many pay for the delivery, since they only stay long enough to get the kids passport and then fly home.

My understanding (which is limited) is it’s not about immigrating, but to get a Canadian passport, and related benefits. They do not plan to live in Canada now or in the future.

I am really educated on it myself, but am trying to learn more.

But what I don’t know is if those are big enough issues to justify more complicated European style system.

How many kids born without citizen parents stay in Canada?

I just would like more exploration on the topic, especially once temporary workers are part of the picture.

Historically we always have had issues with birth tourism, which imo is an unequal way for citizenship. Those that can afford international travel when pregnant, vs those in greater need.

Also the current system makes it very hard to remove citizenship when fraud occurs.

I was biased in my statement, and was referring to “developed countries”, which is a problematic statement in itself.

It would be great if they had two categories, one for the best fundamentals, and one free style. I’d consume a lot more burgers and poutines if they did.
