THE DARK TOWER: ALGUL SIENTO (2003)

From first reading of the manuscript, I was drawn to this scene in THE DARK TOWER VII and knew I had to paint it.
From a rocky overlook, Roland and Jake stare down at the Breakers camp in End World. Algul Siento sits illuminated by a wide patch of light as if held in a spotlight from the heavens. In a moment of shared silence, the two gunslingers squat. As seen in profile, Roland holds a cigarette in his maimed right hand resting on his knee. Jake is facing away, but a plume of smoke can be seen from behind. Oy curls up on the rust colored ground behind Jake. Although Oy rests with head upon paws, its eyes are open and aware. Dark stripes sit on the Billy Bumbler's white fur like lightning bolts, distorting over the curve of haunches and disappearing beneath the closed spiral of its tail.
