Lots of new thoughts after Keiko with Xu sensei from Xi’an, China. Next time again for some other angles on the art.

Went to Sydney to play at SXSW and took the time to go train with Darren Love Sensei in Tasmania and Roger Savage Shihan in Sydney.

Looking forward to the upcoming seminar at Shanghai Xijiao Aikido Dojo together with Nakao Sensei 7th Dan.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Katsuyuki Shimamoto Shihan. I didn’t know him much but I’m catching up now watching clips of his All-Japan Aikido performance back in 2023, truly graceful Aikido. 🦢

Last night‘s practice with visitor Edward from Aikido Adelaide. Always great to have guests coming to our Dojo!

- Wing chun twist: fast punches and then sumi otoshi

I went to Keiko yesterday and they told me it’s my 100th Keiko at Shanghai Xijiao Aikido Dojo. So it rained ukemis for me… 😋

Back to practice! Today at Shanghai Xijiao Aikido Dojo with visitor Sergio from Barcelona. Katatedori variations: turn wrist until lock and push with center to unbalance partner, Kaitennage, uchi/soto kaiten & let the partner stand up, finish with sumi otoshi following the partner’s movement.

No Aikido for 10 days… 😭 Pretty busy touring with the band. (Which is cool too) Looking forward though to practice again when I‘m back to Shanghai.

One of my favorite places to go practice is Nagai Hitoshi sensei‘s Dojo in HK. These days I‘m working in Guangdong, so I dropped by for an Iaido Batto class. Tried to suck in as much knowledge as possible, which originate from Nagai‘s late teacher Nobuyoshi Tamura, a direct student of O-sensei. ❤️

Aikido Notes – 2025/02/28 – Xijiao Aikido Shanghai

Today, I had a great one-on-one class with Terence (Chang Chenyi, 张证壹). He is a very gentle and modest person with a strong foundation in Aikido techniques and principles and one of our Dojo’s founding members. His teaching style is excellent.

I really love the tradition of BIRTHDAY UKEMI! Your birthday??This is what you get! 😬 a worthy way to celebrate!! Happy birthday to Francois sensei, who is leading most of the classes at Shanghai Xijiao Dojo these days. I‘m really thankful for all the learning I can get from him.

Visited Li Dongming’s Shanghai Aikido Budokan (上海合气道武道馆）Iwama-style after Alan Roberts. Pursuing the true spirit of Ōsensei‘s teachings and understanding of the universe. A lot of new thoughts. Budo: If I don’t kill you, you will kill me. Become one entity with the partner (=connect). Be sincere.
