The DOT is also proposing hardened daylighting at nine particularly dangerous intersections in our district, improving visibility for pedestrians and cyclists and promoting safer turns.

We also had some flyers about the ongoing legislative push for "universal daylighting," a way to keep everyone—pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike—safer at intersections. After last week's hearing, people are hoping for @council.nyc.gov to pass the bill! transalt.org/universal-da...

The Cortelyou Road Merchants Association (CoRMA), a community partner for last Sunday's Flatbush Walk and Talk for Safer Streets, is a strong supporter of pedestrian safety and effective streets and sidewalks for the many businesses on Cortelyou Road.

Artmageddon is a neighborhood-wide festival and collaboration with the Ditmas Park community. One of its many components involves open streets - in order for it to be an effective event, people need to be able to get around safely!

Jolyse from Riders Alliance asked for their thoughts on bus lanes, noting that other business owners have been worried about the impact on deliveries. The Co-op noted loading is already a concern with the current street design, but they're optimistic: "Any improvements are good with us!"

Residents and customers mentioned that double-parking on Cortelyou is a problem.

"Especially if you're crossing at a light, that really blocks visibility."

"I bike and drive and walk here. When people are double-parked, cyclists can find themselves facing traffic."

At Sunday's Flatbush Walk & Talk for Safer Streets, Leah and Joanna of Flatbush Food Co-op spoke about how one of the co-op's principles is "Concern for Community," and as such, they want to see safe, effective streets for all.
