I think it's ok to use "AI" to rewrite article content from foreigner English to "academic" English, it probably improves readability for a lot of academics, but if you do do that, check that formatting, filenames and citations are not mangled, it's kind of bad to have AI failures in review version

did you know that olive spelled backwards is evil, O? It is not a coincidence that it is also the only inedible poison that commonly disguises as food stuff.

The actual post is still available in the repo. Normally, when a post is deleted, it's removed outright with no way to get it back. pdsls.dev/at://did:plc...

It doesn't appear in the timeline feed or the post thread API. They may be actively blocking it in the most stupid way possible, lol.

ngl this thing where "bash scripts are too complicated" so we write rust that outputs typescripts that creates yaml that contains weirldy encoded bash scripts which can only be runned on git push is getting out of hand sometimes

I think some of what sabine talks about applies for contemporary computational linguistics too... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO5u...
I can't believe this really happened.

so i voted today. I had to ask chatgpt to figure out that you vote for parties and not people, and how to perform the actual voting process. This information is mostly missing on official election sites, so I finally found a good use case for it, clarifying after public web sites

Unusually optimistic post about LLMs: the fact that AI assisted academic paper writing does not get gatekept by "academic English" "peer" "reviewers" (i.e. this paper sounds like it's written by a foreigner so I downvote it) is an immensely positive thing for most conferences and workshops.

I have always been avoiding politics and being opportunistic when needing to achieve something politically but "feminists" going with hardcore puritan christians to ban games landing me on side with Trump and antiwoke gamers was not something I had in cards for 2025

It's so absurd we are blocking people from "adult" content on steam and now hobo max (I got age verification popup today) while Facebook pushes me daily spam of naked females offering paid sex services and trying to report them is "we found nothing against facebook’s community standards here".

I think that everyone who actually has a PhD and works with peoples with PhD must've chuckled a little when "open" AI's newest model was advertised as a PhD level human as if that was a really good thing. I mean I appreciate that people still respect our education but also lol.

I've been doing computational linguistics for over 20 years now, yet I still get surprised and don't know how to work with people who aren't passionate. Like we are working on something exciting, why wouldn't you spend extra time (at airport etc) on reading annotations and word lists?

Two easy ways to make QR codes for scientific presentations and posters: python package qrcode and latex package qrcode. No need to google after suspicious "sponsored" sites that generate QR codes after registering in and giving your emails and credit card details.

IIUC this seems like something that could actually be called open source unlike the compiled binaries with no sources that everyone is sending out and advertising as open. nice if true
