Just looked and they have to go to Dortmund last day too, so they'll definitely be full throttle tonight.

Any chance we could interest them in a low effort draw, Serie A midtable end of season style?

:whispers: Is Rodri cooked as a top level midfielder? Got danced around for their 3rd, then two sloppy yellows after being caught chasing?

Most surprising thing here is noting that Liverpool would still be 5 points behind if they had matched last seasons results thus far!

February St. Totteringham’s day is a live possibility this year.

Other than a young prospect player who could maybe take some minutes here and there, I’d be surprised.

No, but he might (would) have kicked some of them.

FFS, we won a football game and are still in the hunt for all 4 trophies. As a fanbase, we've got to stop overthinking the potential ramifications of every scenario and try to enjoy whats in front of us. This was a fun game! And penalties are fun in the league cup!

Defenders looked tired late, I thought. Understandable, but hopefully can get through this period till Big Gabi is back.

I get that Gyokeres hasn’t been fantastic, but I thought he was really good against Newcastle and in the first half of the game he got injured in, he was excellent. It’s not like there haven’t been signs of the player he can be.

Some of these kids would have never survived the 1989 run-in. Can you imagine the online chatter after the home defeat to Derby?

I love it so much because what other footballer would think to try it? "Oh no, the ball from Pires is too far over, guess I'll just tap it round the other side of the defender then and make him look like a mug".

For me, goals wise, it's the Newcastle goal, followed by the one for Ajax against Vitesse, then the 2nd v Leicester, then the Argentina goal is fourth.

I think it's elevated by the context of the game, for sure. However, I take issue with describing the second touch & finish as average as it alleges that those specific touches could have been better, somehow. They weren't as difficult, after the first touch, but he still executed them perfectly.
September 24, 2025 at 4:56 PM
I thought he was supposed to provide more vertical passing that might unlock the other midfielders. So far I've not seen enough evidence he does that better than Partey did, but maybe that's a tactical issue rather than his. Still early days, I suppose.

Feels like he's "fast" but not "quick", needs 5 yards to get up to speed and by then he's tangled with the defender hanging on him.

Think we’ll see the same criticism aimed at City for sitting on the lead with 11 men that we saw for Arsenal sitting on a lead with 10 at the Etihad?

I suspect his middling performance in midweek put paid to any chance of starting today. Hard to fault the manager for starting the ones that are performing and Merino has been good.
September 21, 2025 at 2:41 PM
You say this as though Trossard is ahead of Merino in the Centre forward depth list, are you sure about that? It was Merino starting there over Trossard at the end of last season, and to good effect, in fairness.

Sure, but with the various rules, 20M now might be worth a 50M amortized fee in Jan or next summer. We don't know how close to the sun they are on PSR etc, but that flexibility might be valuable. Hard to assess this without knowing those details.

As an Arsenal fan, I’m begging, please show Saka inside every time next game then, let’s see how that works out for him. 🤣
