They knew culinary eggs came from members flock or local farmer. If a rooster deposits sperm and the hen lays an egg, it is fertilized. It doesn’t mean the embryo instantly becomes a chick; it just means the egg is fertilized, laid and then consumed. Incubation is needed to grown and hatch.

I understand eggs can be laid without being fertilized. I never questioned whether or not an egg could be laid without a rooster. My point being aside from mass production currently in practice, roosters were and still are present.

You said eggs I eat are not fertilized. I questioned if they were or not as Farm fresh (not ones from mass production) could be without you knowing. Also, during the advent of Catholicism, people raised their own which would require a rooster at some point for protection and/or to make more chickens

The point of the entire thread is fertilized eggs. There must be a rooster to fertilize. Yes hens can lay eggs without fertilization, but in order to make chicks, they must have the sperm of the rooster. I understand what Quinn meant, but it missed the point.

Well, we typically don’t, but I remember a couple of times at Easter cracking open what we thought was a normal egg and….traumatized lol. Also if you eat farm fresh eggs, there is no guarantee the rooster didn’t do its job.

Are you sure? Farm fresh eggs with no rooster? Mass farming of chickens is a relatively new practice. When the church made this rule, there were indeed roosters. So unless you can time travel and collect evidence to the contrary, you cannot state this as fact.

Right now this is true, but during the time period referenced in the meme, they weren’t exactly mass farming chickens and they kept roosters to protect as well as keep making more chickens.
